For Karatas Yarn, sustainability is not a choice but a foundational rule of our production model. The green transformation we have been building step by step since 2018 produces measurable wins across raw material selection, energy management, waste policy and social responsibility.
Recycled Raw Material
At Facility 3, our GRS (Global Recycled Standard) certified infrastructure returns 1.2 billion PET bottles annually to the textile chain. In 2024, 30% of our production came from recycled raw materials; our 2030 target is 50%. Through our BCI Better Cotton Initiative membership, we centre social and environmental criteria in cotton sourcing as well.
Energy and Carbon
The 3.2 MW solar photovoltaic systems on our facility roofs prevent the emission of 4,800 tons of CO₂ annually. Within our ISO 50001 energy management system, we monitor and optimise consumption at machine level; we plan to source 60% of our electricity from renewables by the end of 2025.
Water Management
A closed-loop water system is in place across all facilities. Although we do not operate dyeing in-house, 95% of process water is recovered after biological treatment, with the 5% evaporation loss replaced by fresh supply. Our rainwater harvesting system saves an additional 18,000 m³ annually.
Waste and Circularity
92% of our production waste is recycled or used in energy generation. Single-use plastic consumption has dropped 80% since 2023; all shipment packaging now uses recycled kraft cardboard and corn-starch stretch film.
Social Responsibility
We make social sustainability inseparable from production through local hiring, raising the share of female employees, supporting vocational education, and education aid for children in villages around the OIZ. We have begun the audit process for SA8000 social compliance standard transition in 2025.
